EAL/D Program at Dinjerra 2016
An English as an Additional Language /Dialect (EAL/D)program is being introduced at Dinjerra this year, 2016, to support the students whose first language ( spoken at home)is not English.
Through this program we hope that our migrant and refugee students, as well as our students whose parents were born overseas, will receive extra English Language support in their classrooms and in small withdrawal classes to support them in their learning in all areas of the curriculum; especially in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening
Our teachers at Dinjerra already do a fantastic job at teaching our diverse range of students so the EAL/D program is to support the teachers in their teaching as well as the students in their learning.
For this program to be really successful it is also important for our parents to be involved in their children’s learning. Ms Carmel Kelly our new EAL Coordinator would love to meet as many EAL parents as possible to begin setting up the EAL/D program at Dinjerra.
Ms Carmel is available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week to meet with parents and carers to learn about the many different languages and cultures of our students and their families.
Please feel free to contact Ms Carmel with any queries, concerns or ideas re EAL/D at Dinjerra.
