Physical Education @ Dinjerra

The Physical Education program at Dinjerra promotes, develops and maintains an enthusiasm and good attitude for physical activity so the children become committed to pursuing an active lifestyle. The Program focuses on the areas of ball handling, movement, minor and major games, gymnastics, athletics, fitness and dance. A PMP (perceptual motor program) takes place in Term 1 for Prep/1 students. During PMP the children rotate through activities in small teams. Activities work on coordination, movement, balance and ball handling using a variety of equipment.

All skills and techniques, in Physical Education are taught through challenging and enjoyable activities. The games focus on promoting good sporting behaviour, group cooperation, teamwork, thinking and strategy and player and spectator winning and losing etiquette.  Lessons take place indoors in the multi-purpose room and outdoors under the shade cloth area or our well-equipped oval area with soft surface soccer pitch, running track and netball/basketball court.

We have a number of visiting clinics, events and activities to enhance the PE program. Visiting clinics include Melbourne Storm touch rugby, Little Athletics, Bulldogs football, badminton, netball, tennis, basketball and soccer. A two week intensive Swimming Program is offered to all students which takes place at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre in Term 4 when it’s warmer.

At Dinjerra we have Sport Captain and Vice Sport Captain leaders who represent their Houses when they meet, discuss, organise and assist in sporting activities. We also have an annual Sports Carnival Day where Green, Gold, Red and blue houses take part in good, fun competition.
